Progress!

Just to keep y'all up to date on my messings-around:

I managed to pull EVERYTHING (ok, except the funky little upright files of paper stuff and the tissue paper box) off the shelves in the Story Room storage closet and sort it all into four categories:

Stuff we use regularly and need to keep has been returned to the shelves (though not yet inventoried or "mapped out" in terms of assigning a long-term place for them to live).

Stuff that seems merely decorative or seasonal I've left out in the story room so we can really look at it, and decide whether to keep it at all and whether that storage room is really the best place to stash it. This stuff, for the curious, is on the table closest to the sink.

Stuff I expect should be pitched is on the table closest to the door to the Children's Room, straight ahead as you enter the room (against carpeted wall).

Stuff I want all of us to look over and decide whether it can be used right away, or whether it should be tossed, is on the other table nearest the Children's Room door. There are several almost-projects that we could either offer as "free goodies" or they might jump-start thinking about crafts for your spring-into-winter program season. ***I'd love to spend half an hour each with Jason and Adrienne--and Xandi, too, if she's interested--discussing the contents of this table and assessing their wishes. Since the room needs to be cleared out for a program on 12/28 and we are closed several days between now and then, please tap me on the shoulder at your EARLIEST convenience to take this tour!!***

By the end of the day today I should also have collected circ stats on 3 of the 6 "ranges" of folktales. (The end is in sight--and the "funner," newer half of the collection lies ahead, yippee!)

Gotta scurry if I'm gonna catalogue another cart of books before closing...

Yah, well, the storage closet looks great...'cause there's nothing in there, it's all in a mess out in the actual story room. Where I would leave it, if I could, just to have the closet keep looking roomy and clean like that!! (This is also my theory of housekeeping at home; I will have to share with all of you my favorite Cathy cartoon on the subject!)

Question for Jason: I haven't touched anything in your story time drawer (or poster shelf)--but I did PEEK in the drawer and notice a stack of half-sheet fliers for October's preschool fair, and stacks of green die-cut mittens, as well as program notes for your "Just for 2's" and "Fun with 3's and 4's" storytimes. I kind of assume you use the program notes from season to season, but if you're looking for a home for the mittens or preschool sheets, feel free to throw them at me. :-P
