Bulletin boards
Greetings, all--
Just wanted to let you know that EV is again at work on putting up a new bulletin board for us, this time about Amber Brown. She may need assistance learning to use the overhead projector to enlarge pictures from the book; I'll keep you posted. Adrienne has also suggested that she tackle a "Back to School" bulletin board after AB goes up, featuring our book list on that topic.
I have received again today multiple requests for a beginning reader for a very, very young child to use, in which there are "only one or two words per page," each of which can be "sounded out."
I generally give a little spiel about reading TO the child, about how interest and developmental issues drive learning to read, and then point people to Biscuit, David Milgrim, and Puppy Mudge (which are NEVER on the shelf), as well as some of the We Both Read books--but I'm desperate for other ideas.

Word bird has a bunch that are like that- usually I start there...
Well, I DO wave at the Word Bird and Sound Of books, but they make me nauseous, and (IMHO) work against the way that kids actually learn to read--that is, because they are INTERESTED in what a book has to say. ICK, ICKY, ICK-ICK-ICK, blah, I don't think they even count on this list. I'll memorize the "Easy" list... ;-P
Well, fine then. Go ahead and spit on my recommendation. See if I care.
;)
