Rotary Cutter Blues

I just wanted to reiterate on the blog that it is very important that teen volunteers are supervised when using expensive equipment. They should be micromanaged for the first few rounds of the project, then checked on every 15-20 minutes thereafter. Use your judgment when determining the abilities of each individual volunteer. And it seems that even the best teen volunteers are prone to errors, so don't assume (when assigning a new project) that all will be well- follow the above guidlines. Volunteers will not work unless there is a regular children's department staff member on duty personally supervising the volunteer.
We haven't had very many major mishaps since I've been here, and I'd hate to see staff spending extra time on duties that have been done- for the most part- without incident by teen volunteers. Thanks, everyone!
